Up Close in the Garden

All of the lush green growth in the perennial garden is starting to show signs of blooming. If you get the right mix of perennials established they will provide you with an ever changing blend of colors throughout the entire growing season. The soft colors of spring are giving way to the vibrant colors of summer in our yard. The soft blue forget me nots are fading out to be replaced by more intense blue geranium and irises.

The bleeding heart is finishing up just in time for the poppies and fuchsia geranium to burst open.

The columbines in their pale pink and dark burgundy are mingled through the rest of the blooms keeping the bees happy with pollen. I always think they are the most likely to become a fairy hat the way they curl out at the edges.

I like to plant a few annuals each year to give the garden a little change and one of my favorite color combinations this year is the pansy I put in next to the variegated coral bells. Perfect!

Hope you are enjoying a June garden too.

Wish Upon a Starfish

...that it would warm up already. I definitely spoke too soon. Nice weather in May departed and it's been chilly and damp. The rain we needed but not the cold. So I've been willing the warm weather to return while I make starfish.
Lots of starfish in warm summery colors. There's a promise of sunny skies tomorrow. I'll make a few more just in case and it's an excuse to surround myself with wool
                    warm cozy wool.

A Little Basket

Here's a Little Gem for a special event at the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design.

I created three small baskets for this fundraiser and they all have a little something different about them. They are all covered which is one of my favorite ways to add a creative twist to baskets. One of them has a surprise at the bottom too. They will literally be up for grabs as numbers are drawn at the fundraiser. Each ticket holder will get a chance to pick from the wide variety of handmade objects and the earlier your number is drawn the more choice you have! I hope they will please their new owners for long time. The event happens this Friday so check out the details here.

The Academic Owls

   They are all scholars!

(the yellow blooms in the background are on my Japanese kerria, it's really healthy this year!)
