Where is the Weaving?

Tangents along the curve have been the mainstay. With January almost gone I have to start weaving again! I took a look back at some of last years projects to kick start the weaving part of my brain. My mission is to complete at least one new design each week for the next two months and that will give me time to tweak them ahead of the summer season. I already have lots of sketches on the backs of envelops and scraps of paper so I need to get the tools out now. Tomorrow is a work day!

Playing with Fibre

Bright colors were the order of the day yesterday. They were a good way to play with adding textures to the surface of the needle felting. The bangles are of course light as a feather and soft to the touch. More experiments to come now that I've tried the first few.

This one reminds me of nerds candy.

The red one is my favorite. Piano keys maybe?

They gave me a few ideas for adding things to baskets too. More playing experimenting ahead.

Who?

Do you remember Brown Owl and Tawny Owl? They were names given to the volunteer leaders at Brownies when I was a kid. Wonder if they still use those labels? Can't remember them all. I do remember the little owl pin my Mom had. She took on the role as Brownie leader to get me to go I think. It didn't last more than one year. Too much organization for my little mind. I wanted to play outside after school and walk to the railway tracks, and ride bikes! It's memories from long ago but they resurface every time I make one of these guys.

The indignity of waiting for ones feet!

A little "owly" today, how 'bout you?

(owly)
You won't find it on WickipediA but the definition is in the Dictionary of Prince Edward Island English. And I'm just kidding about being owly today, I'm never out of sorts! ;)

Tulips!

Three cheers for those hard working greenhouse growers. There's nothing like fresh spring flowers in January.

Wonderland

This Sunday afternoon is one of those perfect quiet days with the snow transforming the landscape.

It really is this dark and grey. The snow scoop is waiting for it's next round of chores.
A couple of visitors showed up...our resident seed thief

and a lone morning dove

The snow seems to be adding up by the minute right now.

Little Buds

A few more little flower bud projects. I made the ring entirely out of wool and it's very comfy. A bit of cheer for a dull day.

The trillium is just about life sized and is a nice reminder of spring.

I'm enjoying my floral design books by Paula Pryke again. They all have stunning photography in them. Hope to have lots of flower buds made to inspire students in the upcoming Feb workshop at CBCCD.

Some of Us Like Snow

Running around in it makes you feel like a pup again.

Okay, enough. Time to go in now.

Ginger hopes you're having a sunny day too!

Needle Felting Workshop at CBCCD

The course calendars are out for the winter session at the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design. I'll be teaching two needle felting workshops in February. The first one on the 8th will be basic techniques for needle felting and we'll make bright and cheerful flowers that have nothing to do with chilly east coast winters.

The second evening will be a slightly more advanced workshop on techniques for shaping to make sweet little critters. Bodies, legs, ears, noses, etc will take shape. We'll start with your basic grey hare and I'll have lots of examples of other critters to inspire folks.

Interested in joining the fun? Check out the schedule at the Centre!
