Shifting Gears
I haven't been in neutral since the last post but rather slowly shifting gears through this cold spring. It has been a long time coming here in the Maritimes but spring is starting to show its colors. That means summer is just around the corner and thank goodness for that! So, the new gear I am in is all about the lazy days of beach season. In honor of my favorite little spot from childhood meet the mermaids of Bouquet Cove. They each have a bit of silk scarf from other treasured memories to accent the soft wool. I think their numbers will continue to grow. Pretty sure about that.
The other new project spawned from thinking of the sea is one of those things we have a love hate relationship with. Fascinating to look at as they drift through the warm waters of the Northumberland Strait they are not much fun when they come in contact with your skin! My mother's remedy for a jelly fish (aka bloodsuckers) sting was to rub the affected area with a handful of wet sand and let it dry on. It seems to work. Hope you never need to find out.
I am hanging on to the mermaids for the time being but the jellies are already floating around at the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design Gallery. Think warm, think summer! Ahhh.
